Composition and Indication
Insunova G is used to treat diabetes. It contains a long acting insulin glargine. Each milliliter of Insunova G has 100 units of insulin glargine. One penfill contains 3 milliliters which is equal to 300 units of insulin glargine.
Dosage and Precautions
Recommended starting dosage for type 1 diabetes:
- Begin with Insunova G at around one-third of the total daily insulin requirements.
- Use short-acting insulin before meals to meet the remaining insulin needs.
Recommended starting dosage for type 2 diabetes:
- 10 Units once daily
- Adjust according to the patient’s need to a total daily dose ranging from 2 to 100 Units.
Pay attention to special warnings and precautions, including the risks of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders, kidney and liver diseases and potential interactions with other medications.
Undesirable Effects and Interactions
While using Insunova G, you may experience certain side effects. These can include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), weight gain, skin changes at injection sites, signs of allergy (redness, swelling, itching)

Other oral antidiabetic medications, MAOI, beta blockers, ACEI, salicylates, sulphonamides, disopyramide, fibrates, fluoxetine, pentoxifylline and propoxyphene may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), whereas corticosteroids, danazol, diazoxide, diuretics, glucagon, isoniazid, oestrogens and progestogens, phenothiazine derivatives, somatropin, sympathomimetic medicinal products (e.g. epinephrine, adrenaline, salbutamol, terbutaline), thyroid hormones, atypical antipsychotic medicinal products (e.g clozapine and olanzapine) and protease inhibitor may cause hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Beta-blockers, clonidine, lithium salts or alcohol may either increase or decrease blood sugar level. Beta-blockers, clonidine, guanethidine and reserpine can potentially diminish or completely mask the initial warning signs that help you recognize low blood sugar levels.
Insulin requirements may increase in cases of infection, psychological stress, or an uncontrolled overactive thyroid, and often at a time of surgery. Requirements may diminish with kidney disease or a less active adrenal or pituitary gland.
In some cases, patients with long-standing diabetes and heart disease or a previous stroke may develop heart failure when pioglitazone is combined with insulin. If you experience symptoms like unusual shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, or localized swelling (edema), it is crucial to inform your doctor promptly.
Storage
Unused Insunova G can be stored in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C for 18 months , away from the cooling element. Remember not to freeze them.
However, if you have an Insunova G that is being used, it can be stored at room temperature (below 25ºC) for up to 28 days. To protect it from light, always keep the vial in the outer carton when not in use. It is important to ensure that Insunova G is shielded from excessive heat and light.
